Introduction For Injured Workers


Any injury or illness is an unexpected stress to not only the person injured. It affects the injured person’s family, their co-workers and potentially the broader community, particularly if the injury or illness is more serious and the injured person doesn’t make a quick recovery.

Workers compensation systems are inherently complex and can be overwhelming for those trying to navigate their way through.   This web site has been set up to assist injured or ill workers navigate the system they find themselves in.  We offer information on how the system works, on legal aspects of the system of a worker’s claim, as well as advise on who to contact and where to get more information or relevant support.

 

 

Our Information files offer information that is pitched at a level for each of the target audiences.

 

How to make best use of the Information files on this site:

 

i.         Injury Management- What is happening and When? These files provide information on what injured workers can and should expect at different stages in the injury management and claims processes.  Information includes, reporting an injury, making a claim, different types of claim status and what they mean for you, choosing your nominated treating doctor, and the role of different members of your treatment and rehabilitation team. The role of different stakeholders is overviewed with emphasis on what should be happening and when. Suggestions are made for dealing with setbacks and problems in the system that encompass tips for dealing with insurers, the role of Workcover and getting legal representation.

        

ii.         Frequently occurring workplace injuries - The most common workplace injuries are overviewed to help you better understand what is happening to you, and what you and your treatment team will be doing to help you recover.

 

iii.         Common Problems with Injury Management – Obstacles to treatment recovery are overviewed with strategies suggested to address particular problems that may arise. Acknowledgement is given of the issues and secondary problems associated with injuries that do not fully recover and prevent you from returning to your pre-injury work.

 

iv.         More Information - These files provide valuable information to help you better self-manage and get the support to recover from your injury. Included is information on  Changes to Workers Compensation in NSW ,Worker's Obligations and Rights, What different  Health Professionals do, Questions to Ask Surgeons and Neurologists, Gaining Legal Advice, Resources you may need if you need further help.

 

Our online surveys target our respective audiences and are designed to ask key questions about the issues affecting them.  The information collected will be analysed, survey results fed back to web site users and where appropriate passed on to relevant administrators and decision makers.

 

Our blog is where you can comment on any experience you have had, or issue you are concerned about related to workers compensation and injury management. Comments may also be generated by other site user’s comments, an article we publish or survey result about a particular issue.
